Like Inter Milan, Atletico will miss 3 players in tonight’s game, with Lemar, Azpilicueta and Vitolo all set to miss the clash. Especially experienced defender Azpilicueta will be missed as he brings defensive stability to the Spanish side. Simeone will hope that Griezmann and Morata can find their previous Champions League form to get a good result from the clash with his former team where he impressed as a player. 

Internazionale form

Inter are on a great roll, winning their last 8 games in all competitions. They are well ahead of the rest in the Italian Serie A and look clear favourites to win the title as they are 9 points ahead with a game in hand. Their winning streak included impressive victories over title defenders Napoli, champions league last 16 contenders Lazio, Juventus , Fiorentina and AS Roma. In the Champions League this season they are unbeaten as well and they look like an outsider for the title. 

Atlético Madrid form

Atletico Madrid are quite inconsistent this season, beating Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey and taking them to extra time in the super cup but then losing at home against Bilbao in the quarter final of the spanish cup. Also, Simeone´s side lost 1-0 away from home to struggling Sevilla but were unbeaten in a challenging Champions League group featuring Lazio and Dutch champions Feyenoord. Atletico will try to limit the damage in tonight’s away game to strike at home with the support of their fanatic supporters.

We expect a cagey game between these 2 sides. Atletico Madrid are known for their reactive and defensive style in big games in the Champions League. Inter Milan will definitely take the initiative and attack but will be wary of Atletico´s counter attack and be prepared with 5 defenders.

PSV will be praying that young star Johan Bakayoko can recover in time from the illness that sidelined him against Heracles last Friday. The Belgian right-winger is one of the key players in their strong campaign and with Noa Lang sidelined and Vertessen out of the club, the options that PSV have for the winger position are somewhat limited. At the back PSV miss long term injured Bella-Kotchap with a shoulder injury, meaning that it is likely that Ramalho and Boscagli will be the Centre Back pairing of choice. 

Borussia Dortmund team news

Borussia Dortmund will be happy that in form striker Donyell Malen looks to be returning to action again after missing last Friday´s fixture against Wolfsburg. Especially given that other attacking options Adeyemi and Sebastien Haller both will not feature in tonight’s game. Long term injured Felix Nmecha will miss the game for sure as well but apart from that Dortmund boast a fully fit squad, meaning that Jadon Sancho can play his first CL game for Dortmund since featuring against Dortmund´s last 16 match away in Seville back on 17-02-2021. 

PSV form

PSV had 2 unusual hiccups in their perfect Eredivisie campaign after the winter break, drawing against Utrecht and Ajax both away from home. At home however Peter Bosz´ side is still unbelievably strong, winning all their Eredivisie home games and being unbeaten at home in the Champions League. Despite their little slump in form the Dutch side will be brimming with confidence before the game, having lost only 2 competitive games in the entire season so far. 

Borussia Dortmund form

Borussia Dortmund are quite unpredictable this season. They impressively finished top in the group of death triumphing over PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle. However, in the Bundesliga they only managed to win 4 out of their last 9 games, sitting in 4th behind Stuttgart, Bayern and Leverkusen. In the games since the winter break form has seemed to pick up slightly with 4 wins and 2 draws in the last 6 games, but this includes being unable to win their last 2 away games. Which Dortmund shows up will definitely have an impact on the outcome of tonight’s match.

Our Verdict

Although both teams are known for their attacking prowess and attacking minded playing style we expect a tight game. Both teams are quite evenly matched and will be cautious in their approach knowing what is at stake. Both teams feel that this is a great draw with chances to advance to the next round and therefore will be sure to not concede any unnecessary goals. Especially with the stats in their latest champions league matches showing their approach to big occasions we believe there will be a tight match with not too many goals.
